The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) Bureau — the governing body of the Committee, representing employers, trade unions and civil society across the EU — will hold its Extraordinary Bureau Meeting in Dublin. The EESC closely coordinates its civil society advisory work and Bureau meetings with the rotating six-month Presidency of the Council of the EU.
The Committee is composed of 329 members representing employers, trade unions and social, occupational, economic and cultural organisations, drawn from all 27 Member States. The EESC defines its role as being able to contribute to strengthening the democratic legitimacy and effectiveness of the EU by enabling civil society organisations from the Member States to express their views at the European level. It has three key missions – helping EU policies and legislation tie in better with economic, social and civic circumstances on the ground; promoting the development of a more participatory European Union; and promoting EU values.
