The meeting aims to facilitate exchange and promote cooperation among food safety authorities at leadership level with a prevention focus through a One Health approach.

The Heads of Agency (HoA) Food Safety Meeting is a forum for the most senior level of management of national agencies in Europe dealing with food safety, animal health and welfare, plant health and consumer protection.

The Heads of Agency Food Safety Meeting provides a key opportunity to exchange views and adopt best practices on how to ensure implementation and enforcement of European food legislation including the experiences on approaches related to improving efficiency and effectiveness and harmonisation of enforcement of food law within the EU. The HoA meets biannually at the invitation of the respective Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The FSAI as the competent authority for food safety in Ireland hosts the HoA meeting on Ireland's behalf.
