The Mutual Information System on Social Protection (MISSOC), is an expert network and database established in 1990 by the European Commission.

MISSOC’s primary goal is to provide detailed, comparable, and up-to-date information on national social protection systems across Europe.

The MISSOC network meetings are biannual events that bring together experts to exchange information on social protection systems across the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland. These meetings are typically hosted by the country holding the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The meetings serve several key functions including:

  • Information Exchange: Sharing the latest developments in national social protection systems.

  • Database Updates: Discussing and verifying the annual updates to the MISSOC comparative tables.

  • Collaboration: Coordinating with complementary networks like MISSCEO (Council of Europe) to identify broader trends in social policy.

  • Strategic Planning: Setting priorities for upcoming publications, analysis, and citizen guides.
