The WHO EU Summit of Mayors on Health and Climate Action will bring together local, national and EU leaders around a shared agenda, leveraging strong links withing the WHO Healthy Cities Network to advance climate-resilient healthy and equitable urban development.

The WHO EU Summit of Mayors on Health and Climate Action comes at a pivotal moment for Europe’s political leadership and for the future of health and climate action. It builds directly on the foundation and recommendations from the Pan-European Commission on Climate and Health. The Summit provides the space where the Commission’s political and scientific insights can be translated into the realities of city governance, local service delivery and community experience.

As a longstanding member of the WHO European Healthy Cities Network, Cork is uniquely positioned to host a Summit that brings together local, national and EU-level priorities around a shared vision for climate-resilient, healthy and equitable cities. By linking the Commission’s high-level guidance with actionable commitments from cities, the Cork Summit moves the agenda forward, from what needs to be done to how it will be delivered.

This alignment creates a clear pathway from evidence to policy to implementation, ensuring that the perspectives and capacities of local governments inform European and global climate–health diplomacy.

The Summit’s themes—equity, preparedness, sustainability—align closely with the EU’s wider strategic agenda:

  • Resilience to climate and health shocks

  • Social fairness and protection of vulnerable groups

  • Citizen-centred policymaking
