An informal meeting of EU ministers responsible for equality will take place on 22 and 23 November in Tralee, County Kerry.

The informal meeting will be chaired by Ireland’s Minister for Children, Disability and Equality, Norma Foley, TD, and will bring together EU Ministers with responsibility for equality, gender equality and disability, alongside representatives from the European Commission, EU Agencies, and representatives of EU civil society organisations.

Responding to the European Commission’s new Gender Equality Strategy, the ministers will discuss the central role of gender equality in boosting prosperity and competitiveness. The meeting will discuss concrete actions to empower women and girls, and engage men and boys in a truly gender-equal Europe. The meeting will also feature a focused discussion on how the EU and all EU Member States can deliver for disabled people. With a focus on our shared commitments around the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the meeting will focus on addressing the barriers that hinder the full and effective participation of disabled people in society on an equal basis with others.
