An informal meeting of EU ministers responsible for justice and home affairs will take place on 16 and 17 July in Dublin.

The meeting will be chaired by Ireland’s Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration, Jim O’Callaghan TD.

The Justice and Home Affairs Council (JHA) is responsible for European Union policies on combatting crime, judicial cooperation, police cooperation and cooperation on immigration, borders and asylum issues. It also develops cooperation and common policies on various cross-border issues, with the aim of further strengthening the EU-wide area of freedom, security and justice.

During the Irish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Justice and Home Affairs agenda will focus on advancing a fair, effective and rules-based approach to migration, asylum and returns; strengthening Europe’s safety and security; tackling organised crime; and upholding fundamental rights, the rule of law and access to justice.

The informal meetings of Justice and Home Affairs ministers in Dublin will allow for an exchange of views on how to advance these priorities in a range of relevant areas, and provide an opportunity for Ministers and invited stakeholders to engage in informal and open discussions on important topics of common interest.
